Australian wine regions

Australia is a large country - Margaret River is further from the Hunter Valley than Jerez in Spain is from Tokaji in Hungary - so, despite the distinctive national approach to wine, Australian wines are not all the same. The wines of Margaret River and of the Hunter Valley differ as much as sherry and tokay do. The three most important wine-producing states are South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. As well as bulk production, they each have specific premium wine regions.

Going for Broke! - The Chrysler-Jeep Spirit Of The Vine Weekend

The boutique winegrowers of Broke Fordwich will bring their Spirit Of The Vine weekend festival to Sydney the first time, in June 2002. Proudly presented by Chrysler-Jeep and The Wharf Woolloomooloo the weekend-long wine festival will be staged at The Wharf on Saturday June 22 and Sunday June 23, 2002.

From 10am until 5pm daily, 17 boutique vineyards will offer tastings of the distinctive wines of Broke Fordwich. Labels represented will include:

Bainton Family Wines
Bens Run
Boatshed
Beaumont Estate
Broke Estate
Cockfighters Ghost
Elsmore's Caprera Crove
Gold Rock
Hope Estate
Krinklewood
Louis Laval
Margan Family Wines
Mount Broke Wines
Mount Eyre
Poole's Rock
Ryan Family Wines
Smithleigh
Tinonee

Broke Fordwich olive growers including the Fordwich Olive Farm will offer tastings of local olive oil and gourmet regional preserves and condiments. Plantation coffee growers and roasters Crave Coffee and local cheese makers will also offer tastings of their unique produce.

A series of tailored food and wine events will be hosted by the restaurants of The Wharf Woolloomooloo as part of the Jeep-Broke Fordwich Spirit Of The Vine Weekend including a Broke Fordwich Vigneron's Dinner at Kingsley's Steak and Crabhouse; Manta Ray Oyster Bar offering a selection of Broke Fordwich wines by the glass with a plate of freshly shucked oysters for $10; Otto will feature a special menu featuring regional produce matched with Broke Fordwich wines created in conjunction with Vogue Entertaining and Travel while W CafE will offer a special cocktail menu.

Wine lovers will have the opportunity to join special wine and food workshops over the weekend (details to be finalised) conducted by Broke Fordwich winegrowers in conjunction with Greg Duncan Powell for Vogue Entertaining and Travel.

Entry to the weekend tastings event with purchase of $10 souvenir tastings glass. Registration automatically enters participants into a draw to win a luxury weekend escape to Broke Fordwich including weekend use of the latest Jeep to get you there; accommodation at a local guest house, a big country breakfast, lunch on a vineyard and a mixed dozen of Broke Fordwich wines.
